The project manager of an oil company undertaking a multi-phase decommissioning project in the UK decided to bring their team together for a Lessons Learned session. The team comprised ~ 30 people from across the project, both the oil company and the main contractors. The brief to Stash from the client was to make sure we achieved input from everybody, to ensure the discussion was interactive and that specific actions emerged (not just a nice chat, real improvements should be achieved as a result of the session).
The purpose of the workshop was to understand the positive and negative aspects of the work completed in the first phase of the project and then to look for actions that the team could deliver that would consolidate the positive lessons and make sure the negative were not repeated in the subsequent phases.
Taking place over a half day in Aberdeen the output met client objectives and the feedback was excellent - 'One of the best 'Lessons Learned' sessions I have attended. Great facilitation and energy - you engaged everyone 10/10' We have been planning and delivering Lessons Learned workshops for over 10 years, for greenfield, brownfield and decommissioning projects. Whilst the nature of the project and the attendees vary the core facilitation process we use for Lessons Learned is tried and tested. The specifics of a project and client requirements might demand some modification but generally the way we go about delivering exceptional results from Lessons Learned sessions is well established.
